Rodney Hamilton

Director Farmers First Australia

I was instrumental in the formation of the Company to facilitate the expansion of Agricultural Income Protection Insurance (AIPI) for farmers in Australia.

I was born on the Darling Downs into a farming family. After being educated on the Downs and Toowaoomba I moved to Condamine on the Western Downs. It was here I started farming in my own right developing brigalow scrub into cultivation for forty years. During my time at Condamine I married and had three sons who all returned home to farming for a time with two leaving to have careers off farm and only one marrying and staying home on the farm. While at Condamine my wife and I participated in our local community and got involve with Agri politics.

We grew our business with some setbacks along the way. 2010 was to be the year to make us but the floods came through and wiped out the biggest crop we had ever grown.

I had been working on Income Protection Insurance in Agriculture for many years. Some time with the University of Southern Queensland and also lobbying Federal and State Governments, Banks and anyone who would listen to find a way forward certainly with more than some frustation. Agricultural Income Protection Insurance was finally launched in 2014 commercially. I took it up that year and had lived a breathed it since. I have personal experience and the power AIPI gives you.

I have now with others started a company ‘Farmers First Australia’ that delivers Agricultural Income Protection Insurance to winter crop farmers in Australia. No longer are we at the mercy of the weather or the financial institutions.
